Art has deep roots in my life. It was a creative escape throughout my childhood, and it preserved my motivation to keep grades up in high school, which is when I realized I wanted to study to be an art teacher.
I attended Towson University for my undergraduate and masters , where I studied Art Education and had a well-rounded studio experience in multiple forms of visual arts. In 2021, after a year of teaching during the pandemic, being a mother of 2 boys, 2 rescue dogs, and wife to a very hard working husband, I realized I needed to rethink my full-time gig as a teacher. The stars aligned and I was able to follow my passion for making art.
Recently, I've returned to the classroom teaching elementary art and I am constantly inspired by my student's unhindered ability to create.
My adventure as a studio artist started in 2011 when I founded Paint My Paws, doing custom pet portraits. It was a great foundation to learn the business aspects of being an artist. Being able to create artwork that others hang in their home and enjoy each time they pass is something I strive for. In addition to dogs and cats, I love painting things that inspire me daily; Waterscapes, Trees, Animals, and Annapolis (my charming hometown) are some of my favorite subjects.
I absolutely love interior design and believe a great painting can be the component to tie an entire room design together. While decorating my own home, I always knew exactly what artwork I wanted to paint for a wall, but I never had the time to create it. When the stars started to align in spring 2022, I knew I would finally be able to water the roots to my new art adventure and Homegrown Art Shop started to bloom.
